As more and more of our lives are spent in a virtual, online forum, the need to harness the power of search is essential.
You don’t need numbers to know that the world has moved online, but I’ll give you a few. (Source: broadband search.net.) Let’s start globally and work our way to you.
Of the nearly 8 billion people on the planet, almost 5 billion enjoy internet access and self-report to using it frequentl
The numbers in the west are significantly higher, 90% of North America, and 87% of Europe are connected (we were actually surprised by the percentage of people that weren’t online). Another important fact is that most of these users are connecting via their telephones.
In fact, 2017 was the first year that mobile access to the internet surpassed computer access with just over 50% of traffic and has remained as high ever since.
If your company has a website, that means most of the world is your potential target, and most of these targets are on the move at any given time. Engaging just a small fraction of a fraction of this potential audience would translate into success that most small businesses would have a difficult time imagining.
The number of websites in the world is fluid and changes every second, but as of January 2021, the number of sites was almost 1.2 billion (Source: siteefy.com). So how does that fraction of a fraction even know you exist?
The short answer is Google.
Google accounts for almost 88% of regular online searches and more than 93% of mobile searches. When the world goes looking for something, they use Google to find it. Now consider this: “At any given time, 84% of Americans are shopping for something,” and “97% of consumers go online to find a local business or local services.” (Source: Google).
Translation, your customers are on Google and looking for you. It’s your job to make it as easy as possible to find you.
